Downloads

1. What file formats are available when I purchase a download?

MunckMusic offers downloads in two formats:  MP3 (at high-quality 256 Kbps resolution) and FLAC.  Due to the large size of the FLAC files, a small surcharge is added to all FLAC orders.  You will be prompted to choose your format before you complete your in the Check-out process.

2. Why would I choose to download MP3 format?

MP3 is the most common digital music download format and is ideal for Windows and Mac users with iTunes®/iPods® or any other existing MP3 music libraries and devices. A vast number of digital music fans are already familiar with the MP3 format since there are numerous consumer electronics devices and software applications on the market that are capable of playing MP3 files.  Our downloads are DRM (digital rights management) free and can therefore be played on and transferred to any device of your choice.

All our MP3 download files come with at the highest resolution setting – 256 Kbps – which is more than twice the resolution typically offered by other music download services selling MP3

Download specifications:
Encoded at a constant (CBR) 256 Kbps bitrate
Files are saved with a ".mp3" file extension

3. Why would I choose to download in FLAC format?

FLAC files are so called lossless files that, when de-coded, render full CD quality sound. The files are generally 3-5 times larger than MP3 files, and requires more storage and significantly longer download times. There are very few devices that can play back straight FLAC files, so they must first be converted by the user into another listenable format, such as Wave files. This requires a separate de-coding application on your PC, and adds extra processing and complexity to the download experience. We therefore only recommend FLACs for experienced users.

4. Who sets the price for downloads?

MunckMusic works directly with the artists to set the price. Downloads are typically priced below CDs as they require no handling, assembly, and inventory management. Contrary to some beliefs, however, downloads are not cost-free. Web-design, data storage and equipment amortization, internet connections, royalties, software licenses, payment processing, database administration and maintenance, tech support, customer service, and venue fees all add up!

Technical Problems

1.  I'm concerned that there will be 2 second gaps between each song.

The sound engineer puts track markers only with no gaps between songs.  Most digital music players are capable of playing files contiguously without gaps between songs (files).  Please check the instructions for your music player on how to do so.

2.  Is your site secure? I do not see the padlock icon on my browser.

The padlock icon on your browser is indicative of every piece of data on the web page being sent over the secure socket. Sending the background images and other miscellaneous data over this socket would degrade the performance, so we chose not to secure the entire page. The personal information is indeed secure, and the presence of a secure socket can be verified (while viewing the Buy CDs page) by going to the File Menu, then Properties. Under security you will see a statement about the SSL 3.0 security layer.

 3.  Are these recordings from the soundboard?

The recordings are multi-track recordings and are mixed separately from the FOH (front of house) soundboard.  The mixed tracks are augmented by stereo microphone feeds of the audience to give the recording a “live” feel.   During mastering, careful EQ and slight compression is used to tailor the recording to stereo listening.
